Engineering and Construction Company Limited (ECI), a leading construction company in India, received USD 25 million from Sabre Abraaj India PE Fund I, a fund managed by Sabre Capital. The stake size was not disclosed. Rajiv Maliwal, the Co-founder and MD of Sabre Capital, will join ECI’s Board.


ECI will use the funding for expanding its construction business, financing its hydropower BOOT projects, and building a modern manufacturing unit to construct steel towers required for their core power transmission and distribution (T&D) business. The company manages construction projects related to T&D, highways, railway electrification, hydropower generation, irrigation, and other civil infrastructure activities.

Sabre Abraaj is a 50:50 JV between Sabre Capital Worldwide and UAE-based Abraaj Capital. In 2007, the venture launched USD 300-million Sabre Abraaj India Private Equity Fund I to invest in Indian companies.
